A COLLECTIVE OF FILMMAKERS SEEKING TO PUT WOMEN IN FRONT OF AND BEHIND THE CAMERA TO TACKLE STORIES WRITTEN BY WOMEN WITH HONESTY AND CURIOSITY
A growing network of New York-based filmmakers, Girl Gang was founded by Lauren Friedman and Julia Schneiderman in the spring of 2016. The two met when Lauren cast Julia in Sophie, a short film she wrote and directed. While working on Sophie, they quickly discovered a shared passion for female focused projects (both in content and creation), ambiguous and complex stories, and a drive to produce their own work. They teamed up next in May 2016 on the short film, Jess & Lily, written by Julia and Addie Crabb, and directed by Lauren. While co-producing Jess & Lily, and during long talks over coffee, Girl Gang was born as the next step in their creative partnership.
They have since co-produced Dumpling, a short film written by Julia and directed by Lauren, and are currently working on a collection of short films called You Like It.
